The Purple Turtles showcases Indian Lighting Designers, providing them a platform for their artistry. The Bangalore-based store opened in 2009 to provide out-of-the-ordinary decorative lighting, unique and interesting furniture and home accents; with an option of customization. Here, your search ends when looking for lighting solutions for residential, corporate or hospitality projects.
Q2.Who is the team behind your venture?
Radeesh Shetty , Founder Lighting Designer and Proprietor of The Purple Turtles Radeesh started out in marketing and media but changed focus to follow his passion for architecture and lighting design. He works closely with Architects and Interior Designers to bring their scribbles and mood boards to life as innovative lighting solutions. He enjoys nothing better than traversing the country several times a year, scouting for interesting designs and pieces for the store.
Jenny Pinto, Design Director Jenny Pinto is a studio handmade papermaker based in Bangalore. Since 1998 she has been exploring various fibres and the nuances of paper for the purpose of lighting. Inspired by natural and urban landscapes, the designs are artisanal, contemporary, subtle yet dramatic and green. As Creative Director, Jenny is meticulous about design detail and fine craftsmanship of the handmade banana fibre lights exclusive to The Purple Turtles. Her studio is one of the first green buildings in Bangalore and is a hub of creativity and experimentation for the team.
Gaurav Rai , Director With over a decade of experience in sales and marketing with News Corp, Accenture and Disney, Gaurav brings with him considerable expertise in sales strategy & planning, client relationship and team management. He works closely with architects and interiors designers from the ideation to execution of projects. Gaurav is an avid sports buff, enjoys traveling, theatre and merchandising.
Q3.What is your work style?
There is no particular style bracket that we fit in, but we believe in the freedom of creativity. One of our services includes customization of lights in the corporate, residential and hospitality spaces, which is accomplished by our brilliant in-house design and merchandising team.
Q4.What are the future plans for growth?
We are planning to expand so that we’re more accessible to the rest of the town. By the end of this year, we’re expecting 3 fully functional stores.
Q5.How did you acquire your first customers and what has been the learning along the way?
Our first customer was referred to us by a friend for a project.

Our typical customer would be anyone looking to make a beautiful home or office.
Q7.What would you say is the biggest lesson you have learned while running ‘The purple turtles‘?
Developing a strong and good team early in the business is very crucial for any business to flourish.
Q8.What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?
In the industry like ours and with the goals that we have, it's always a challenge to bring something new to the table. In the competitive world today, it's very easy for an idea to get copied, thus maintaining exclusivity is a bit taxing.
Q9.If you could only give one piece of advice, what would it be?
Always follow your passion and don’t run after money. Create something for yourself and the money will follow.
Q10.You believe that in order to change the world, we must first change ourselves. Give us an example of how you have changed yourself?
I believe you grow with your company and over the years, and as a matter of fact I’ve become more patient.

Attempt it. Always go for it so that you don’t have any regrets later.
